A GREEK-ITALIAN WEDDING WITH CHILDREN AT A CRETAN WINERY
These guests will be talking about this destination wedding experience for years to come. Starting with the venue the couple chose — In our opinion it is one of the most beautiful and well organized wineries in Crete. We are talking about Lyrarakis winery in Alagni near Heraklion. Surrounded by vineyards, this venue is perfect for any outdoor event, from weddings and baptisms to anniversary celebrations. The winery offers two large lawns with string lights, an upper and a lower one, but right next to each other, one of which we used entirely as a play area for the children. The dining tables for adults, the cocktail bar and the dance floor were set up in the lower area. Being so close to nature and the modern yet rustic ambience are the main reasons why someone would want to spend their most special day at Lyrarakis winery. By the way, they also offer wine tastings and tours that you definitely shouldn't miss when traveling to Crete.
The play area was designed for around 20 children and offered all kinds of entertainment options. Starting with our “Regulars” which consist of our most popular activities called Photo Box, Catch the Bubbles, Feeding the Animals and our Guessing Booth. Our “Photo Box” activity includes a photo backdrop, a Polaroid shoot and a craft project where children design their own cardboard frame to take home as a souvenir. In “Catch the Bubbles,” children have to catch as many soap bubbles as possible coming out of the bubble machine using animal toys that open their mouths when the handle is pulled down. Another fun children's game is “Feed the Animals”. Here, children have to feed the animals depicted on extra-large posters by throwing peanuts into their mouths. Last but not least, our Regulars include our cute Guessing Booth, where kids have to guess the amount of beans that are in the jars. In addition to all the fun and creative activities, we also set up some of our event furniture. This children's play area included our cotton canvas bell tent (also used as sleeping area for the children after midnight), our two teepee tents, and our small dining tables with eco-friendly tableware that we later converted into craft tables. Also part of the dining tables, cute party favors for the little guests.
When planning our children's areas, we take into account the entire color palette. It is important that both the children's area and adult area are color coordinated as this will create more harmony in the overall atmosphere of your event. The color palette in this example consisted of olive (fruit) tones, from green to brown. Many of the decorative items are handmade by us, such as various garlands and table decorations. This gives us control not only over the colors, but also over the materials, as we prefer to use environmentally friendly materials in our events. Scroll down to see what this event looked like!
